Match Summary of Borussia Dortmund vs PSG
19:59 The teams walk out on to the pitch into an empty arena. But we can hear the violent drumming and chanting outside the ground of the crowd that has gathered, even the authorities weren’t expecting this. Is there even a big screen there for them to watch the game, I highly doubt.
20:00 on the clock, refree blows and PSG gets the game going. It’s Neymar vs Haaland in a Sunday League setting.
First Half of Borussia Dortmund vs PSG (Second Leg)
1′ Foul by Emre Can (Borussia Dortmund). Neymar wins a free kick early in the game in the defensive half.
3′ Foul by Leandro Paredes (Paris Saint Germain). Emre Can (Borussia Dortmund) wins a free kick in the defensive half.
4′ Foul by Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint Germain). Dan-Axel Zagadou (Borussia Dortmund) wins a free kick in the defensive half.
6′ Many loud fireworks are being detonated outside the stadium. You’ve got to hand it to the PSG ultras, Le Parc des Princes is one of the great car park atmospheres in the history of European football.
7′ Bernant collects the ball just outside the box on the let-hand side. He makes a shuffling burst between two opponents and passes to Sarabia, he chips the ball towards Cavani in the centre, but Dortmund’s centrebacks are well positioned and there is no chance of the cross reaching the striker.
8′ Neymar goes down, physio is called up. He is receiving treatment to his shoulder. He’s helped off the pitch.
9′ Seems like Neymar is fine, and ready to roar back on the pitch.
10′ Foul by Axel Witsel. There’s been a general lack of sharpness about players on both teams and maybe they’re finding it hard to get ‘in the zone’ in an empty ground? Pablo Sarabia (Paris Saint Germain) wins a free kick in the defensive half.
12′ Hand ball by Achraf Hakimi (Borussia Dortmund).
16′ Yellow Card
Haaland’s first significant impact in the game, however it earns him a yellow card, as he catches Paredes with a bad foul, a lately timed tackle.
18′ Corner to PSG. Conceded by Achraf Hakimi. Neymar delivers an in-swinger. Haaland heads it away from the near post.
19′ Dortmund makes a real chance for the first time. Hakimi flies down the right and sends over a cross but no one can meet, Guerreiro retrieves it on the far side and chips the ball back to Sancho, who smashes off a volley from the edge of the box. It’s a sweet connection but well off the target to the right.
24′ Di Maria does exceptionally well to stop a pass from Sarabia from running out of play; then he nutmegs Zagadou near the byline and goes down hoping for a penalty with a brush of the defender. Ref wasn’t convinced, there was nowhere near enough contact to justify that.
25′ Attempt saved.
Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint Germain) right footed shot from the right side of the box is saved in the bottom left corner. Di Maria nips a lovely pass through to Cavani, whose runs off the shoulder of the last defender and lashes a low shot goalwards from 20 yards. The first real chance of the game for PSG was a glorious one, and Burki did very well!
27′ Foul by Axel Witsel (Borussia Dortmund). Neymar (Paris Saint Germain) wins a free kick in the attacking half. He dinks the ball towards the far post. It’s put out for a corner, which is conceded by Mats Hummels.
28′ GOAL! PSG 1-0 Dortmund (agg: 2-2) (Neymar 28)
30′ Dortmund’s attempt to build an attack breaks down because of a heavy touch by Sancho.
35′ Foul by Leandro Paredes (Paris Saint Germain). Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) wins a free kick in the attacking half, about 10 yards outside the box. Navas commissions a four-man wall. Sancho sends a decent shot over that but straight into the arms of Navas.
37′ The match has totally changed since the goal. Now it’s Dortmund who are dominating the possession and PSG who are diligently trying to keep them at bay. Sancho tries an attempt with a shot from a tight angle, but Navas saves it comfortably.
38′ Foul by Lukasz Piszczek (Borussia Dortmund). Edinson Cavani wins a free kick on the left wing.
39′ A wholesome effort by Neymar. PSG’s whole dugout applaud Neymar for some exemplary tracking back and tackling. PSG is going to make it as hard as possible for Dortmund tonight.
41′ Attempt missed.
Hazard tries his luck from the right-hand corner of the box. He sends a low shot several yards wide. Hakimi had a chance on the right, criticized for not slipping him in.
44′ Solid play by PSG, keeping possession with calm authority. And when they lose it, they scramble to win it back quickly.
45 + 1′ GOAL! PSG 2-0 Dortmund (agg: 3-2) (Bernat 45+1)
PSG scores right before the half time. Its the Spanish left back Juan Bernat for PSG. Neymar Jr. wriggled into the space, mid-way inside the Dortmund half and then played into Sarabia, whose low cross from the right is flicked into the net by Bernat.
45 + 2′ Attempt missed.
Bernat again! A left footed shot from more than 40 yards on the left wing misses to the right.
Half time whistle blows. It’s been an exemplary first period from the hosts. They’ve shown poise and smarts and been ruthless enough to take advantage of loose defending. They’ve overturned the first-leg deficit with minimal stress and have showed no sign of trembling. Dortmund have been disappointing … but one goal for them levels up this tie. The thing is, as they press for that goal, they will leave themselves even more open … but Mbappé is due to come on at some stage in next 45 mins. Paris are definitely in the driving seat.
Second half of Borussia Dortmund vs PSG (Second Leg)
46′ The second half is under way. Dortmund works their way quickly up the Parisian box, showing more determination which they lacked in most of the first half.
48′ Attempt blocked.
Thorgan Hazard (Borussia Dortmund) right footed shot from outside the box is blocked. Assisted by Lukasz Piszczek. Dortmund have dominated since the break and are starting to stretch their hosts.
52′ Foul by Raphael Guerreiro. Ángel Di María wins a free kick in the attacking half.
53′ Foul by Emre Can (Borussia Dortmund).
54′ Attempt saved.
Di Maria tries to beat the keeper with a curling freekick from nearly 30 yards. It’s a tremendous effort by Burki, he flings himself across goal to tip it out for a corner.
56′ Triggering stuff from PSG – yes, really – as they outfight hazard for the ball on the edge of their own area.
58′ PSG continue to outfight Dortmund for possession all over the pitch. If Dortmund keep the ball, it’s only to go backwards towards their defense line.
61′ Yellow Card
PSG launches a counter-attack, Hummels gets himself booked for pulling down Cavani.
|Substitution, Paris Saint Germain. Kylian Mbappé replaces Pablo Sarabia.|
65′ Foul by Juan Bernat (Paris Saint Germain). Achraf Hakimi (Borussia Dortmund) wins a free kick in the defensive half.
68′ Yellow Card
Foul by Juan Bernat (Paris Saint Germain). And he has been booked for this.
69′ Dortmund substitution
Brandt on, Hazard off.
73′ Attempt missed.
Julian Brandt takes a left footed shot from outside the box is close, but misses to the right. Assisted by Lukasz Piszczek.
75′ Attempt missed.
Emre Can takes a right footed shot from outside the box is high and wide to the right. Assisted by Jadon Sancho.
77′ Attempt blocked.
Gueye robs the ball in midfield and presents it to Mbappé, who brings in Neymar. PSG tear forward but their attack founders at the edge of the box, and Dortmund zoom forward on the counter. Brandt’s shot from the edge if deflected over the bar by the ubiqitous Gueye.
Paris Saint Germain. Layvin Kurzawa replaces Ángel Di María because of an injury. PSG’s aim is to see this out. PSG’s aim is to see this out.
80′ Attempt blocked.
Giovanni Reyna (Borussia Dortmund) right footed shot from outside the box is blocked.
84′ Kehrer skips away from an opponent in midfield and lopes towards the opposing box. Zagadou brings him down to give PSG a freekick nearly 30 yards out.
86′ Attempt missed.
Neymar goes for goal from a preposterous distance and misses by a predictable amount. He’s had a generally fine game today, gamely doing all the unglamorous parts of the job as well as contributing the occasional flourish. His decisions have been mostly on point, but not that one.
87′ Dortmund substitution
Götze on, Hakimi off.
